A farm is a collection of fields, farmlands, buildings, tools and equipment that belong to the same owner.

A farm typicly has a specific topic, and the building and farmlayout will all be in function of that topic.

Characteristics

Characteristics change with the farms location in the world but generally it would have these type of components.

  • A main product. Can be a fruit or an animal
  • A fence surrounding the property
  • A main house building
  • A main road leading into the property
  • A mailbox or entry sign where the property meets the road
  • Some kind of general storage building

Fruit Farms

  • Fields to cultivate the fruit
  • Storage for the fruit
    • Grain Silo
    • Storage Buildings

Animal Farms

  • Storage for animal food
  • Grass fields for grass and hay production
  • Barn Buildings
  • Meadows

Farms in GE

Farms don’t really exist in GE. It’s the collection of all things that make the farm.

You would typicly group most of the farm objects under the same TransformGroup centered on the location of the farm.

I think in the demo maps there is a convention on where to place farms in the hierarchy.

We should be able to create a toolkit that recreates the same hierarchy. That way we can maybe build the Farm concept into the toolkits.
