Maps4FS generates a backdrop i3d file based on heightmap data and includes satellite pictures.

They have a guide on their website on how to edit it in Blender to make it work.

The whole process takes about 10 minutes. With the latest Maps4FS updates I think they are cutting out the middle part of the terrain. We can probably tweak the generator to completly automate it.
