Buildings
Placing a building doesn’t take much time. But detailing is what makes a building fit in.
Take your time decorating the building to make it feel part of the world.
Fitting a building to the terrain
Height
If the terrain isn’t flat underneath the building. Make sure the building asset connects to the terrain everywhere. Most building assets extend further into to ground to account for this.
Foliage
Grass and foliage likes to creep next to walls.
Clear foliage on paths people would walk.
Windows and Doors
Buildings aren’t orientated randomly. A window will almost never point to another wall.
Doors should lead somewhere. Doors have pathways connect them to surrounding points of interest.
Prefab Toolkit
The prefab toolkit can spawn prefab buildings from the base game library.
Placing a building
- Create a new TransformGroup
- Press Ctrl-B. Press a location in the world where you want the building
- Open the Prefab toolkit
- Select the building you want to spawn
- Select the parent transform you want the building to spawn in
- Press spawn
- Select the building and adjust transform to match the world
